The mission of Tri-Community Recycling & Sanitary Landfill is to provide solid waste management services to the Aroostook County region; in a way that is equitable, environmentally sound, and cost-effective; so that those services can be provided over the long-term. We are an equal opportunity employer and provider.
Construction is complete on a bunker for dropping-off bulky waste items at TCL. This includes: furniture, carpeting, mattresses, demolition debris, etc. Due to DEP regulations, regular household trash must still be deposited at the residential drop-off building. With this addition, no residential vehicles should be required to travel to the working face of the landfill. Commercial vehicles (those requiring a commercial driver’s license to operate) will still be directed to the landfill working face to dispose of waste.
The portable construction trailer that was previously used as a scalehouse has been replaced with a new, stick-built structure. The new scalehouse is more energy efficient, safer, and user-friendly. The scale electronics were also upgraded to insure that the billing to our customers is as accurate as possible.
Soderberg Construction completed the installation of the leachate pipeline in October of 2011 and it has been placed into service. Landfill leachate can now be conveyed year-round to the Caribou Utilities District wastewater treatment plant without the use of tractor-trailer trucks. This project was completed on time and under budget; as were all of the recent Phase III landfill development projects.
